I’ve been getting more into winter fishing and boy are the flies small!!
Getting them in and out of the fly box is a challenge every time.
Then, tying them on is a whole additional challenge. Plus, every time I cinch my clinch knot down, I inevitably get skewered by the hook.
There must be a better way? I’m imagining a set of strong tweezers to help hold it while I rig up.
I was thinking of even just using my forceps to hold the hook, but was wondering if I risk breaking the hook if I clamp it down?

  1. I think I learned this on Tim Flagler’s channel. Buy a $5 pair of plunger hackle pliers and keep them on a zinger.

  2. I use Dr. Slick hand tweezers to assist in tying or handling tiny flies. Especially with tying, it makes it a lot easier to thread the tippet when tying the clinch knot.

And then magnetic fly holders instead of wool/patches for holding them. Much easier to pick off the magnet vs. getting out of wool.
