Hello everyone! Yesterday I noticed my betta having clamped fins and not eating much. Because of that I observed him the whole night, I noticed that his back part is rising when he is not moving, so I am suspecting that he might have SBD. I started fasting him now, no improvement yet, but he is still responding and flaring at me.

I read that SBD can be permanent, is it true? If not what else can I do for him? Will buy medication if needed, but I don't know what medicahe needs. I don't want to put him into medication that he doesn't actually need. Will his swimming be back to normal?

His symptoms right now are clamped fins, inactive, not much eating, stays at one place for long periods of time.

Please help me know what to do, I hope this is nit permanent, I want him to swim without struggling. 🙁

Btw the water parameters are perfect and i also did water change just to be sure. He currently in a hospital tank.

Also he moves a lot in tye video because he can see me, but when I am far away from the tank, he just stays at one spot and clamp his fins.

  1. I am by no means an expert but he seems able to open his fins. Im not sure his fins are “clamped”. Bettas have the ability to retract and condense their fins right? So his”clamping” may be just how he chills while he’s not swimming. Overall, I feel like he looks healthy

  2. Might have to do with old age (if he’s old). Betta fish slow down when they get older, so that might be the problem. If this betta is younger, then I’m not sure.
