After reading a river runs through it, I’m finally sold on the idea of fly fishing. I’ve been spin fishing for a while, and I mostly going for largemouth in shallow rivers. I have a feeling I’ll use a lot of streamers and some poppers just from watching yt videos. After reading online, it sounds like the best rod for that would be a 7 or 8 wt. Since I already have an old 8 wt rod in the garage, I’m wondering if it would work to get a cheap 6 wt rod and 7 wt line on a reel that I could use for either rod. Would I get a lot of use out of the 6 wt? Would it work to have line that’s one wt off the rods? Anything I should know about fly fishing from a kayak? Cheap reel/lines? All tips and info appreciated, and please drop fly recommendations for river largemouth.
