Is there any ârulesâ to where you should and shouldnât drill holes?
Should I use my handheld auger or my spud bar to check/measure
I brought all the gear needed for ice fishing. I havenât gone since I was a kid.
Something feels awkward about walking onto the lake , drilling a bunch of holes, setting a tent up, and just chill.

Drill wherever you want. People donât own the lake.
sure nobody owns the lake, but setting up shop 10 feet from a guy is frowned upon. usually you want to be 30 to 50 feet away from anybody else, but sometimes the fish are only biting in the one spot, amd piling up happens. generally if you’re farther away than your line is deep, you’re good.
My rule of thumbâŠ
I donât want to be close enough to overhear otherâs conversation when they are using their normal speaking voice.
Otherwise Iâll go wherever I want.
Fish wherever you’d like. Use common sense. Don’t fish right next to someone. Take a look around at others and mimic their spacing if you are unsure of the etiquette. I suggest testing a couple spots for a bite before you set up shop. Have fun!
Think of it like hunting dont set your treestand right beside the guy or your a douchbag
