I made a day trip to Hot Creek and here’s what I found…

The water’s running pretty low and grass through the canyon is still plentiful. Nymphs ate a lot of leafy greens but luckily I didn’t lose any.

I fished the deeper, slower pools, which are sparse. There was zero interest in a zebra midge but I had good success off a pheasant tail. The only fish I saw all day were smaller rainbows. Wondering where the slabs are hiding right now.

I didn’t see a single hatch on the creek so nymphs / midges are the way to go. Hoping to fish dries on my return trips this winter.

The roads are still passable, as of yesterday, but we’re getting hit with a storm over the next three days in the Sierra (it’s snowing right now as I type). My next trip will likely require snowshoes.
