I’m in the market for an 8wt rod and reel for pike and possibly some steelhead/salmon in the future. I currently own a 4wt Beulah with a nautilus x reel and a tfo nxt combo in 6wt.
Lots of Stillwater pike in the area I live now, been tying lots of pike/walleye flies lately and want to upgrade into a rod.
There’s an orvis recon (first model) on marketplace that’s reasonable for an unused rod. I’d like to stay below 1000 dollars.
As far as reels I’ve been looking at another nautilus but they are out of stock everywhere in my area. Would like something fully sealed.
Any input would be awesome.

Sealed drag isn’t necessary for esox.
I fish them a lot with click pawls. A good leader system is overbuilt so you strip them in as fast as you can lest the hook slip.
If you plan on doing saltwater stuff and actually need a dependable drag system, I’d do that separately and not put the extra wear on a reel unnecessarily.
