Next week I’m flying out to Kaui and Oahu for a family vacation. I’m going to have a decent amount of time to fish so I’m going to try my best to catch my first bonefish. I know what I’m getting into is challenging so I hired a guide in Oahu for a day. I’m going to be in Kaui before that so I’ll be DIY for the first part of the trip.

I have no idea how any of it works. All I know is an Orvis Guide to fly fishing video. I went to my local fly shop (fly fishing specialties) and talked to someone who does a decent amount of bonefish in Hawaii and they got me set up with some leaders, tippet, and these flies. I’m going to be fishing the anini beach area in Kaui to start. How do I decide what time to start with the tides? Also, is fishing at anini beach blind casting? If so, how do I choose where to cast? What kind of retrieve should i use?

I’m super excited to expand my horizons and try something new.
