The green is the aluminum extrusion, blue is the skis, black is my sled, red is my tent. It’s a very rough rendering just to create visual context for when I assemble and disassemble it at the end of the season. The aluminum is held together by heavy duty corner brackets and a few additional internal brackets and then it’ll be attached using some additional corner brackets to the skis. For transportation the base comes apart by loosening 8 screws and sliding the legs away from the internal braces and should all pack down to a very small profile. If you’re interested in the products I used I’m happy to send links. I’m probably going to be about $70 into this project after ordering a couple more pieces for additional structural support.

I thought this was a neat idea, but about $90 just for the collapsible bin and folding hinges. Plus need skis and some wood. Could easily replace the folding bin with a roto molded sled, bigger skis, etc. I’m thinking about getting the hinges and using some stuff I already have.
That’s going to be way too tall and top heavy and will 100% tip over in deep snow, going over snow banks or down hills. Half as tall as it is wide is the max. My smitty is 12″ off the ground and has never bottomed out in the snow even with 100lbs on it. Not even 2 feet of the softest fresh powder.
Also, just use 2×4’s and 2×6’s man the smitty sled has already been perfected. Your hands or gloves are gonna freeze to that frame and stick there. If you want to keep going with the aluminum those skis need to be even with the sides at least.
