I purchased this all season kit recently and am heading out to use it tomorrow morning bright and early. One thing that's been eating at me is I chose not to get down imaging or side imaging as this unit was already more than I wanted to spend, but didn't find many gen3 or newer nearby used and the 5" seemed so much smaller than the 7" so I bit the bullet.

I will use this both for ice fishing and from the boat or kayak, did I make a big mistake not getting si/di? I figure if I really regret it I can likely resell and upgrade down the line so not a huge deal. I don't think I care about the network capability, some day I'll go all out for a Garmin livescope but it'll likely be a few years and until then I just want the best fish finder I can get without completelt breaking the bank. Big justification point for this was the all season package being ready to go for summer without extra purchases which is really nice

Side imaging only works when on a boat. Down imaging is nice not something you’ll use a lot. You’ll use either the regular 2d just to see if anything’s down there OR you’ll use it as a flasher. It’ll be fine. You can always upgrade.
