New gear is flashier, lighter, and more precisely machined, but there's something special about fishing with "old school" gear that my grandfather used to catch more fish than he could count over the decades. Fishing with his gear drives, at a subconcious level, an indescribable urge to rely on simpler tactics using classic fly patterns.
