Just received my first flies from an online fly company. This popper has some mono filament that wraps around the back behind the popper and loops around to in front of the popper. It seems like this would inhibit the ability for a fish to bite the hook. Any thoughts here?

I always cut it off, but it is so you don’t get hung on Lilly pads and weeds when fishing in ponds and lakes

Not at all — that’s a weed guard to keep the worst of the grass, lily pads, etc off of it. A fish will still take it.
