Yesterday I was out on Lake Thompson, targeting Crappie. At one point I looked down (was only fishing in about 6 feet of water) and saw this pike absolutely smoke my minnow. He broke off right as I set the hook, and proceeded to do the same to both of my other lines. After grabbing my rod with braided line, I set up another drop shot, dropped the minnow down, and he instantly ate it. Fought for a solid 2 minutes before he came up the hole tail first, all tangled in line. I don’t eat pike, but have a friend who’s gonna love these fat fillets. This is why pike are some of my favorite fish to catch in South Dakota, they fight like hell.
