The red mark is my cottage. This is the first year I have ice fished on it. I am primarily a bass fisherman but there are lake trout on the lake, I see the trollers out there (it goes to 130 feet deep in front of my place)
I have been "lazy" ice fishing – fire on shore, minnows, keep my lines 30' – 75' off shore, when one pops, run out, catch 'em. I have caught mostly lake trout but almost ALWAYS in the same hole – and I don't have a flasher / depth finder (yet) and finally upgraded to an app where I can measure depth (at least) next time I go out (this weekend)
My guess is, the money hole that has been hitting is probably that first white shaded part past 20 feet up to 30' in depth. Funny, I NEVER knew the mound was there….
Any other places to try if you were at my lake? Most of the lakers have been small (2-4 lbs.) but wondering if the big ones are deeper? OR work around the mound? On the mound?
Would love some advice! Been having a blast, I just don't know how to target lakers like I do the bass in the lake!
(thanks in advance)
(it wouldn't let me post an image directly, so using a link – is there a better way to embed?)
