How deep of crank baits are we talking? I would also not be using a fast tip for a crank bait, I much prefer a moderate action. A medium heavy will also struggle casting say a small square bill. My standard go to for crank baits is a Medium moderate. All of that being said I don’t throw crank baits on a spinning setup so again preference.

I think it’s generally advised not to purchase rods on Amazon since they don’t use rod tubes and they usually show up damaged.

That’ll work for a crankbait setup. But, if you’re just getting into fishing I would buy a cheaper setup. You can get a pretty reliable setup for around $100 especially since you’re looking for a straight retrieve and not a finesse rig. Use the cheaper stuff to learn before you start to specialize. Just my 2¢.

Feel like now is the time to learn a baitcaster if you really want to throw crankbaits.
