I was set on either betta 1 or 2, but saw how sad 3 and 4 were. I can only take 1 since I only have one available 5 gallon. I do have a 2 gallon I can set up as a temp if I really want to, but I'd feel bad doing that. Help me decide on who to get!

I think number 3 is in the worst condition! I’d go with that one.. even if it’s a bit ill and doesn’t have much time left, at least you gave it a happy last few months!
I’d also go for number 3. Just remember to give it a good life.

1 is gorgeous.. but I’d take the one you think is savable with a nice big tank.

Honestly though I’d set up the 2 gallon as a temp tank/hospital tank for the sad (possibly sick) one and get another 5 gallon ready. You can always do a fish in cycle and give them both a better life.

Or – stop supporting this kind of practice and find a store with bettas in heated individual tanks. Or a home breeder on r/aquaswap.

I ended up going with #3, she coming home with me. I talked with the staff and if #4 is still there next week they’re going to give him to me. He was a surrender. Thank you all for the input, I think she’ll brighten up soon. They gave a hefty discount on her
