I found these for 6$ a piece and picked them up just to try them out since they were so cheap, have any of you guys ever caught any fish with one of these?

Definitely! Both will do best in somewhat calm waters, just jerk-jerk-pause and they will pull spec trout, redfish, jacks, etc.
