This little dude was sold to me as a baby male but I was wondering if there's any way to tell for sure? He was one of the petco "baby boy" 4 dollar ones so i know nothing about it except that lol. Got him about 3 weeks ago.
Also do you think he will stay this pale color or will it change as he grows older? Are there any sort of "toys" or something I should get him to keep himself busy? He always seems energetic and I'm afraid he might be bored lol

the anal fins slightly below the gills indicate sex. if they are long and more prominent the fish is male, another way to tell is the presence of a beard, which is located behind the gills and is typically darker. im not great at sexing bettas but those are definites

Time will tell, I don’t think it’s possible to sex them this young
It’s a female. You can just barely see her egg spot in the last picture
Very young still. I’d say female, you can try shining a light behind her – if you see a triangle in her belly then they’re ovaries 🙂 the general body shape and egg spot also say female (though some young males can have an egg spot as well). You’ll be able to tell for sure when it grows a bit 🙂
