He doesn't seem to be flaring but is this aggressive behaviour or is he stressful to be unable to explore the tank? I'm still acclimatising and observing him in a container..

usually all my fish do this when they are in cups even guppies they just want to explore and he out of the cup

Hard to tell since being in a cup can be stressful. Once you’re done acclimating, I’d pop him into a mesh breeder box if you have one and see. My male for example absolutely loses his mind in the cup and plastic breeder boxes, but is totally chill in a mesh breeder box. The female on the other hand didn’t care at all what she was in, she was just chill lol

But obviously a much better way to judge is unfortunately often just releasing them to see how they react after and during exploration of the new space and seeing everyone.

Looks like he just wants to be released 😂 He’ll probably try something but those fish are much quicker so should be ok unless you see him swimming erratically after being released. If he swims erratically after being released I’d leave him alone for an hour or so to see if he’ll calm down. If he doesn’t then it could be stress caused by having other fish around. Be aware of any fin nipping.

Pretty sure he’s just trying to swim down towards the dark area to hide. Likely just stress while acclimating. Almost all of mine used to do this when acclimating. When they didn’t, I would get concerned that they were sick

  6. He just looks eager to me. I’ve had bettas do this when there are no tankmates. Gorgeous boy probably wants to go explore. I would definitely watch him closely after regardless.

  7. In nature, a betta fish is both a predator and prey.Being unable to hide effectively, they can definitely feel stressed in their environment!

Adding live plant cuttings of floating plants to the confinement cup can significantly enhance their well-being. These plants not only provide cover and reduce stress but also help improve water quality.

I can’t say it’s the right answer but I will say if I were a fish I wouldn’t want to be in a cup if I had what looks like a very nice set up I could be swimming in. So he might just be excited to get out into the world.
