I'm sure there are devices or traps that have something to deal with the loose hook but I ended up gluing pieces of cork from a wine bottle.

Such an easy solution to a problem. I usually wrap the line around the whole thing and barely find somewhere to hook – annoys me everytime. Time to find a cork

I got some velcro ties from like Walmart or Runnings that have a grommet on one end for a hook keeper. They work pretty well.
