Please accept my terrible photo edit as tax. I have a standard hood that I retrofitted to accommodate a light and I just busted it. I have these rubber spikey things on the lid which keeps my cat off 99% of the time, but every so often he likes to double check and jumps up there, then jumps right back down. I’m guessing he would also be curious about a new lid.

TLDR; can a versa lid support an occasional cat???

I’m no expert on these lids but I’m an expert at recognizing high quality photoshop, and boy does this hit all the marks

Depends how thick the glass is. The lid on my 125 was thick enough but my 55, no way. Way too thin the cat would go right through it at some point.

    Love the photo.

IMHO the glass these are made out of is very thin and there is a big risk of broken glass in your tank and now wet cat.

I have had a few of these style lids and you can see the panes flex under their own weight just by holding them horizontally.

Wouldn’t risk it. Find something more robust, build your own, or see if a glass shop can cut you a square of thicker/stronger glass.

  4. I think you already know the answer but are hoping someone will tell you the opposite because you want to do it regardless. Don’t.

  5. the glass will not break under the weight, but they can move it until the whole lid and them fall into the tank

if the lid completely fits the tank’s rims (no gaps or hanging over) it might, my cats used to jump up there and it never fell in. you can try discouraging jumping up top by leaving things like your conditioner bottle on the edge, but obviously that can be unsightly

You need something to train them not to do it in first place put tape sticky side up on the top or mousetraps with some cardboard over them something they won’t like

My 20L supports my 10 pound cat nightly. It’s unfortunate she picked up the habit of staring at pea puffs from above. I think they enable her…

  9. I am going to continue to tell Marmalade this is not an option. Please do not let him think it is.
