(I videoed but it won’t let me add it for some reason :c )

I posted yesterday about a strange critter I yoinked out of my aquarium. It turned out to be a hellgamite (Dobson fly larva—they’re terrifying and look like a water centipede from hades, will eat your shrimps and fish—aquatic for years and this one was huge, so it’s been hanging around a while). They live in the creek, and I have drift wood from the creek, so because it is one of God’s creations, back to the creek it went. I acclimated the cup for a while weighted by some stones at the shore while our family skipped rocks and enjoyed nature. Then I released Hellga Dobson into the wild where she belonged. She seemed confused at first but started crawling away, off to the biggest adventure of her life. I like to think Hellga Dobson would be a distinguished, sophisticated lady with dramatic eyelashes who enjoys a shrimp cocktail, a strong tea, and to just be understood. She didn’t ask to be born in my tank. Goodbye, Hellga. I hope to never find one of your kind again.

Never release things that have been in your aquarium back into nature.
You run the risk of introducing diseases from your tank to the local wildlife, which they have no immunity for.

A wonderful end to the story! That is a beautiful creek. She looks right at home. The way you describe her matches her adult form so well, with a long flowing gown and fancy adornments. Definitely well traveled.

Totally pedantic nit incoming: Should be “Releasing Hellga Dobson *whence* she came”. No “to”.
