3 dot gourami was my first fish ever and the one who lived longer so it holds a special place in my heart

Not quite last place, but not far from.
The 5 or 6 i tried were either nervous and skittish, or agressive as hell.

It’s definitely up there. I had a blue one I named Marty after Marty from Madagascar lol. Had him for 5 years and purchased him full sized so I have no idea how old he really was but one day without warning and with no findable issues with the tank he was just dead. All his tank mates were fine.

I love them, they are so personable, and curious, and I love how they keep exploring all areas of their tank and seem to be really engaged with their surroundings (with their little feelers touching everything!!)
But…. they can be real aggressive assholes. They are basically a bigger, less flashy betta when it comes to personality. Some can be pretty chill, some will literally tear every tankmate apart on a whim. Males are usually more aggressive than females, but even that isn’t always an indication of how they will behave.

They are a very common fish, and I caught them often growing up. Because of that they are one of my most nostalgic fish.
I guess I’d put them quite up there, though not at the very top. Maybe top 10
It takes number 3 right behind an upside down catfish which I can never get as my LFS runs out even when I ask to hold them for me.
I love them, but I love big south American cichlids more, and I’d never keep them both in the same tank
