Hi y’all! I’m a shark/ray surf fisherman looking to upgrade from my Penn Fierce IV 6000 and 8000 liveliner reel 9 ft 2 pc combos (still love those combos and plan to continue using the).

I was looking up some options within the $190 to $200 budget and I chanced upon the Daiwa BG 5000 Size Reel 10 ft 2 pc MH ($179.99) and the Penn Battle IV 6000 Size Reel 9 ft 2 pc MH ($189.99) combos. Both of them seem like really good surf fishing combos for their price range, as somebody who prioritizes reels that can take a lot of power and force from sharks and rays on the surf at and have good saltwater protection tech for a decent price.

Frankly, I’m in need of help from you guys to decide which rod and reel combo is the better choice for my type of fishing. To clarify, I typically fish for Leopard Sharks, Bat Rays, Smooth-Hound Sharks, Soupfin Sharks, and Diamond Stingrays.

I have a 5000 bg and a 6000 battle. Get the bg. Also idk about the rod the bg comes with but the rods that come with the battles are like pool cues.
