Over the last two weeks I’ve had the pleasure of using the 25 Antares and the 24 Steez SW TV.Both on Poison Adrena Rods. The rest of this post will be comparing them.

Smoothness:Both reels are extremely smooth(as they should be at this price range). But in my experience my Steez was very slightly geary(it’s prob dry), whereas my Antares was smoother out the box. Point to the Antares

Looks: Personally, I don’t really like the grayish blackish color on the Steez. The color on the Antares is much better looking. The frame is also much better looking and more solid. Point to the Antares.

Dialing/Backlash: The Antares was surprising hard to break in, and the breaks still need to be relatively high. On the other hand, the Steez was dialed in and ready in about 5 minutes. With the TW on the Steez you really don’t need to thumb it, but thumbing on the Antares is 110% necessary. Point to the Steez

Casting Distance: I’ll preface this by saying that both reels routinely cast into the 10-15 yards of backing I have on them. The Antares really excels at about 1/2 oz and above whereas the sweet spot on the Steez is from 1/4-1/2 oz. I feel that I have to cast harder with the Antares and the Steez feels easier and more natural. So for that reason point to the Steez

Pricing: I got the Steez for $440 and the Antares for $380 so the difference is minimal when you are in the higher end market.

Hand feel and Weight: To be honest, I expected the weight difference to be much more profound, but for an all metal reel the Antares is surprisingly not that heavy. It weights about 215g which is 55G heavier than the Steez but for the bulkier and better profile I think it’s worth it. The Steez is really a tiny reel, and can be easily palmed, but I have bigger hands and like the way the bigger Antares fits in my hand. Tie

Niches: The Steez is the perfect reel for Jerkbaits, lighter Texas rigs, lighter drop shots, finesse style cranks and maybe even weightless senkos. On the other hand the Antares really excels with Frogs, Whopper Ploppers, Spinnerbaits, medium sized Cranks, bigger spinnerbaits, heavier Texas rigs, and even smaller swim baits.

Verdict: Both reels are phenomenal, and I think you should choose the one that caters to the niche you need filled. The Antares is much more difficult to setup and if you are new to bait casters the Steez is the better option. In my personal opinion though, as much as I like the Antares, I prefer the Steez. It’s just something about the effortlessness of bombing lighter lures. That being said I do find myself reaching for the Antares as it fits my hands better. To conclude, choose whatever fits your niche.
