Wish me luck on the biggest piece of wood I’ve ever attempted! The actual aquarium light arrives next week. I’m going to find out how bad the tannins can get the hard way for a little bit, see if I like it, and go from there.

  1. Locally foraged on my aunt’s property, scrubbed with wire brush, soaked four days, and boiling water poured on it repeatedly with hot water baths in a 5 gallon bucket!

The little light is temporary for sure, just something to let the moss chill with until the nice one comes. I’m pretty excited, honestly. Nitrite 0, ammonia 0, nitrate 10, pH 6.0ish, 78.8F. Nitrate is intentionally a little high for the newer plants, but I’m monitoring it! This is a 10 gallon with a chill little lady betta and 4 platies, an odd stocking but seems to be doing well with no aggression. The betta will population control the fry, no doubt.

The apples are holding down the tank lid because the wood is floating and wants to be free 😉

Might get flayed for my stocking, but I do have a plan for extra platy fry that make it to juvenile, the LFS takes store credit for them!

    The pothos is artificial

I’ve seen folks super glue wood to rocks before to weigh them down. They put some cotton pads between them to increase the surface area for the glue.
