I'm a first time betta keeper and I've done some research but I'm still not sure. He is a mermaid Betta and his government name is Fredrick Ulysses Salamanca, although he likes to go by Fred.

He is in a 2.5 gallon tank ( I know not ideal, plan on upgrading) and the water tests all came out good. His tank is at the corner of the table of the couch where I sit and he always gets active when he sees me (so cute) and I read that's whay they do with us food givers, he is an active child but just wanted other opinions! Thank you

Cloudy water is usually a sign of water quality issues what were the numbers on your test?

There might be a little too much water flow stressing him out along with the cloudy water indicating that soemthing is off. Make sure you test that and add or take away from there.

I turned down the water flow and I can’t remember the numbers but they were in the safe zone according to the test kit, I’ve had him a week this past Friday and the water has cleared up and he still is active. I took that video about 4 days ago

Is that the Aqueon 2.5 gallon? If so I’ve got the 5 gallon version and the 2.5 hospital tank. If the light hits the wrong way my betta starts freaking out!

  5. 50/50. Maybe the light is stressing him out if it’s on too long? Look into hiding spaces and silk or real plants!

i’d add floating plants, they help a lot with getting rid of bacterial bloom when waiting it out doesn’t work.

more than anything i’d say he probably would do better with some enrichment. for my bettas, i like to show them random items, let them watch tv, play music, and i have dry erase markers i use to draw on the glass. sometimes they get really mad at my drawings LOL.
