I never noticed them until today, and since I look at my tank every day as it's on my work desk, I can only assume they've suddenly turned up! I really don't feed that often, my water changes are infrequent as the shrimps seem to love a dirty-ish tank. I normally just get the poo up from the sand and top up with water.

Hydra, they can kill fish fry and baby shrimps.
ive heard some fish eat them but like all life it has its place in the ecosystem and will usually spike then plateau in population depending on food sources.
You can get rid of them using some meds fenbendazole i think someone correct me if im wrong.
as for the tiny worms cant really tell sorry couldnt help more

HAIL HYDRA.
If the worms have triangular heads then they are likely planaria, which COULD be harmful to baby shrimp. Planaria and hydra usually come when there’s overfeeding going on. But that’s quite a bit of hydra – you might be feeding more than you think!
What I found worked for hydra was to turn off the filter and directly squirt hydrogen peroxide on them with a syringe. (The curved kind with a very small hole at the end) Its a long manual process as you’ll inevitably miss some and have to re do it, but it’s a viable alternative to worm meds.
