Hello everyone, I am new to this subreddit and I am taking care of a new betta for the first time in… 7-8 years? the last time i had one i was a teenager, so i am refreshing up on owning a fish again.
this tank has been going as a cherry shrimp colony since december, it’s a 13 gallon (50 litre) tank fully cycled, planted, heated, etc.
i only bought this guy a few hours ago. he already has a name (Ace) and he’s the most beautiful white/red dumbo with a shimmer of green/blue on his side (the video doesn’t do it justice) and i can’t wait for his true colours to shine through. i know it’s only been a few hours but ive been watching him carefully and he seems quite.. tired? constantly resting up on leaves, the holders for my heater, the driftwood and the ground. i know i just need to Wait but im so worried that there might be something wrong, is this normal behavior for a new betta? i’m just worried since he doesn’t seem to be fully exploring the tank.

Check your water parameters, especially ammonia. It they’re good, he’s probably just stressed from the change of habitat.
My Chief Brody (master of Jaws themed tank) was similar to this for about a week. All water parameters were perfect, he was just a little stressed because he had been at the lfs for a couple of months. I finally used some stress guard and a day later he was loving his 20g tank and finally happy to see me. I’m sure he’ll come around
