I recently decided to treat myself to a premium fly rod. I decided on the R.L. Winston Air 2 – 9’ 5wt. I ordered it online, and after a week it arrived today.
Normally I’m not picky about stuff like this, but I’m wondering if this red coloring on the reel seat is normal or if this is a defect/discoloration that shouldn’t be there?
Does anyone have any insight?

I believe they use box elder which can have the red streaking in it. Not a defect, just part of the wood.
Not sure if normal, but I think it looks cool! Congrats on the upgrade
