Someone told me this was a pickerel. Is pickerel and pike the same thing? Also I've heard muskie have a light background with dark stripes. So I'm confused what fish this is. I'm used to salt water fishing so sorry for the ignorance.

Chain pickerel. They’re different than pike, but look very similar.
It’s a chain pickerel same type family as the musky but much smaller fish biggest I’ve caught is like 28” catch them on anything just like a northern pike which go upwards of 40” musky grow well over 50” and very very hard to catch
Black line under the eye means chain pickerel.
Large chail pickerel. Nice fish.
Guys how can i tell this apart from pike?
Dark line under the eye and chain like pattern tells you its a chain pickerel
