It will work for bass but that big plastic piece in the front (called a bill) indicates that this is a deep diving bait.
If you fish from the shore, you’re likely not in very deep water making this an unideal bait to use. If you like the bait a lot, see if they make some shallow diving (2-4’) versions and try that.
Also, that’s a big bait. Typically this will result in fewer but bigger bites.

I’ve seen hooks attached to wood blocks catch bass. Bass will go after anything.
