Another fisherman gave me his setup right off the end of his rod. It worked well and caught me a couple brook trout- I'd love to learn a bit more about what its called and how else I can use it (particularly with my own flies- what size/style)

Bubble & fly I believe
Bobber and fly rig on a spinning rod usually. It’s a hack for fishing flies without fly fishing. I do it plenty. Look up bobber fly spinning on YouTube, plenty of videos on it. Pistol Pete who makes flies you can get at Walmart also have videos on yt.
Bubble float. Can also be used for getting distance with small lures.
