Hi, I'm new to keeping fish and I need some help in knowing whether or not I'm doing this correctly. (Sorry the camera quality is bad)

•I don't know if the size of the tank is appropriate. I feel like it's kinda small compared to other tanks I see online but my family members have been telling that this size is more than enough for a betta fish.

•Should I get a heater? I don't have a heater because I live in a tropical climate where the weather gets very hot at times and I'm scared of cooking my betta fish alive.

•Is my filter too big? I feel like the flow it makes is too big for my fish coz whenever I turn on the filter he'd stay in the corners or stay at the bottom of the tank. I don't know how to turn the filter smaller, there's no option for it. The filter came with the tank.

•Are the plants enough? I'm gonna get more plants and hiding spots for my fish next week.

Betta will be fine, they are tough. Not saying it’s an optimal tank, but a lot better than what I’ve seen.

The flow looks to be too strong. Look up the type of the filter and then look online how to baffle it. Most filters can be baffled by attaching dense sponges to the intake and outflow pipes. The filter should be running 24/7 without affecting the fish. If you can’t do that, then you need to replace the filter if it can’t be baffled. Sponge filters are a popular alternative. The floaters will also very likely die due to the flow

Other than that, a lot more plants of different heights and a nice piece of wood would help fill out the space more and make it a much more enriching environment. Since the tank seems to be quite high, it’s best to just fully embrace that and play around with verticality instead of building a flat scape. If that makes any sense lol?

It really depends on how much you want to get into it. I would recommend getting more decorations and plants for him to feel more comfortable. When he has more hiding places he’ll be more active. You’re doing good though! That’s a great start compared to many. My boyfriend’s tank shown here is pretty ideal for a betta. He invested in a bunch of live plants and added minerals that replicate their natural habitat. Catappa leaves or tea is one great example. There’s a lot of resources out there that can teach you about healthy aquariums and it’s a wonderful and satisfying hobby that can always grow! Best of luck my friend!
