Specifically the larger x-raps. I find they work great for bluefish, but I struggle to get them to cast without tumbling unlike other minnow plugs. Am I missing something or do they just not cast as well as so minnows and the like?

Back before the SP minnow came out, minnow plugs were all considered some of the worst casting lures there are. It’s why we loaded Red Fins and bombers. Unfortunately, that’s just how it is
It’s kinda hit or miss man. It’s like a football, if you the hit the spiral she flys.
I found it to be very dependent on the rod. These types of lures cast much better with a moderate action
