I was fishing for tarpon out of a pond that’s connected to the ocean and at night all they were hitting were top water. I got this guy on a fluke. But every time after a few seconds the spook would go under water like a jerk bait. I’m using 30 lb braid to a 40 lb fluorocarbon leader. The only reason I’m using the leader is for abrasion resistance against bigger fish. Any tips will be helpful. Thanks

Fluorocarbon sinks, your line is pulling it downward. Especially if you pause at all, the line will immediately sink and your first motion will pull it under. It can be less pronounced if you’re moving the bait constantly. Mono and braid both float (unless you’re using new sinking braid, you would know if you were).
