Hello!

Seeking out rod builders/repairmen this time. I actually caught this rod a few weeks back and had the idea to try to fix it up. HOWEVER… the tip is snapped off and I do not have it, as it was gone when I pulled the thing out of the water. The reel was broken and missing a handle, so I got rid of that. I also don’t know if any other part of the rod is damaged or anything, but it looks to be in decent condition outside of the top section and the reel.

This is a 7’ 2-pc medium spinning rod, for reference.

Is there a way to replace the top broken section and get a new tip? If so, how do I do that and are there any suggestions? Would it be worth it to fix or should I just keep the rod as a trophy/momento of my biggest catch?

I have tried to fix in the past but never as good, and lose significant sensitivity. Always end up buying a new rod and keep that as a backup or catfish rod.

Usually the fix for this is to cut and sand down the remaining tip and use the next guide as the tip. Make sure there’s no sharp parts that can damage line. You will lose feeling and it won’t be the same as a full rod, but still very usable. I have a couple rods like this I use as loaners or beaters for kids at the shore/docks, just keep them handy in the truck. They always have shit gear and a 90% rod is better than the rusty walmart rod they have. Kids always wanna know what I’m doing to catch fish. First thing I do is hand them a rigged rod/reel that works and doesn’t grind, so they can actually cast to where the fish are and not 5ft in front of them lol

Unless I am missing something, this is the kind of rod you pick up for $10 at FB marketplace.

  4. You don’t have the tip? Just cut it off no2 and lose that section . Acion won’t be the same but you’ll still catch fish. Make sure it’s cleaned up so it doesn’t cut the line when casting

Just glue a new tip on it. Find the tightest fitting tip you can, get some hot glue (or super glue, that’s what I use), apply it to the broken end, slide the tip on and line it up. Ready to fish.
