i think that’s a tangerine koi betta, but i might be wrong, not sure about fins

is there any way you could get him to flare and grab a picture? he is for sure not a plakat (the short finned variety), but it’s hard to tell his exact fin type without them being fully extended. He also doesn’t seems to be a dumbo eared variety either (those are the ones who have big flowing pectoral fins, and his are normal size) As for color, i’m no betta expert, but he definitely looks like a koi based on the splotching and color combos. I’ve found that in the hobby there are various names for certain colorations and various types of said colorations. iirc, some breeders even have a whole grading system that i know nothing about lol. If you wanted to get nitty and gritty about his color, i’d look at online betta breeders and see what they label fish with a similar coloration to him as 🙂

That my friend should be a Galaxy Koi Betta! Male. Perhaps a veiltail / halfmoon mix? Im not the most versed on fin shape, especially in mixes. Thats what my boy Apollo is, they look like they could be siblings!!
The Koi is the orange, red and black coloring. The “Galaxy” part comes from those shimmery blue spots by his tail!
