I was fishing with a friend and long story short, the rod broke in half but we kept the reel. When he took the reel off he let the line reel back in before swapping it to the other rod and now I don’t know what to do to get the line back out or even where it comes from in the reel.

Hold the handle and unscrew the top to remove the spool. It will be easier to find the tag and manipulate the line without the rest of the reel being in the way.
It’s stuck under the spinner head. Unscrew it. This happens from time to time with spincast reels.
