How often are these two confused? I’m very new and don’t want to be in the wrong side. Seems like it if has a black tip it’s not a blacktip.

Very confusing if you don’t pay attention to the anal fin. Florida blacktip has no size restrictions whereas a spinner is 54″ I believe. And a 4ft blacktip tastes great on the grill

They’re confused very often, even amongst experienced fishermen. I will say that the anal fin trick isn’t 100%, as I’ve personally seen blacktips with a black marking on their anal fin. A better identification I like to use is the dorsal fin. In spinners, the dorsal fin is smaller and located much further back than the blacktip’s, usually behind the pectoral fins. A spinner’s snout is typically a little longer as well.
