Grew up learning how to fish from my grandpa. An avid fisherman. I have pics of me standing at a San Diego doc when I was 5, holding the tail of a giant tuna he brought in after a week long Baja fishing trip (he did this a lot). Whenever we visited my grandparents in San Diego, he’d take me surf fishing for corbena either blood worms. I hated waking up early.
When they moved to Texas for a bit, he taught me how to fish for blue gill and catfish.
I stopped fishing after that and he passed when I was 28. But last month, my own kid asked if I could teach her to fish. And it got me excited again. Now in Portland, we’re surrounded by a ton of great fishing spots. Bought myself a kayak 2 weeks ago and took it out on the Willamette River and snagged this smallmouth after a few hours of no bites. Worth every second.
Taking my daughter out this weekend. 🥰
