Looking to get first fishing kayak and I’m considering these 2.

I’m leaning more towards the pelican purely due the fact it seems like I could stand in it. I’m 6’ 200 pounds, do you think standing is realistic in the pelican? If not I’ll probably go with the Magellan.

I think the pelican would be a better buy for you. You’ll have more room for yourself and your gear, and you should be able to stand. It will be somewhat more difficult to paddle though.

  2. I agree with your logic, the pelican seems to have a wider base which should lend to more stability. Even if it doesn’t allow you to fully stand up, it will support you better as you lean to net a fish or look over the side.

  3. the pelican is a much more long term kayak. plenty of my buddy’s have been running a catch 110 or catch 120 for 3 or 4 years now

The Pelican is a great quality boat, love mine. Be aware that they are made in Canada and can be difficult/expensive to get right how. I tried to order a 2nd catch mode 110 this spring and basically every website that listed them in stock called or emailed me after I placed an order to let me know their listing was wrong, and that their Pelican inventory was affected by import tariffs.

Other boats worth looking at in this style and price range are the Perception outlaw and the Lifetime Manta.
