Any idea? Leaving for a trip in two hours with a new rack system and while the rack it self has nice 50" spacing for the kayak, the kayak doesn't clear the cab for bow lines and hangs way over for stern lines.
I got good loops and so, just can't find a way for them not to rub on the paint.

Loop the bow and stern straps under the kayak to the rack it’s sitting on or to a D ring in the bed. That should apply enough down force to keep them down.
Doesn’t matter, they’re just insurance in case of catastrophic failure. I’d hate to see that beauty sliding down the highway! I once had a strap failure on a whitewater boat with just straps. I heard a thump, looked in the rearview, and saw my boat cartwheeling down I-78! Fortunately whitewater boats are very sturdy and there was no traffic to run it over that early in the morning.
