Had a great weekend out fishing in south Alabama. Hit up the inter-coastal water way around Wolf Bay and then the marshes in Mobile bay near Fort Morgan. Ran across a gator, kayaked around with a pod of dolphins, and got to see pelicans, herons, and hawks all fishing for themselves.
I finally caught the red fish I've been trying to target, one at 20 inches and the second at 23 inches. Got both of them on some smaller crank bait. I hooked up on the larger one when I was trolling my line between spots and thought I got caught on a log at first. Once I got him moving, he started pulling out my drag and I had to drop the anchor so I could fight him in. And he fought every step of the way and when he would get close, he would get another burst of energy and dive away. Finally landed him in the net after a bit, then heard some cheering. Apparently a dolphin viewing cruise boat was traveling by and they enjoyed the show. Made catching that one all the more fun to hear the applause.
