Caught my first carp of the year yesterday!

The only problem is, both the dorsal and anal fin spins got caught in my net and I had to cut the net to get it out. The membrane between the one of the spines was basically gone and there was a jagged edge that was impossible to get out quickly. I'm not sure if my net caused the damage or if it was already wounded.

What net do you guys recommend? I don't want that to happen again… I'm thinking smaller diameter netting or rubber coated?

If you’re going to be doing more carp fishing id recommend a better net, 36″ or 42″ fine mesh one. That will handle any size carp you will come across really and it will be safe.

Usually smaller diameter as far as I’ve seen, look at the estropean carp nets, those things have like 1-2mm holes

  3. Use a wide net 100×70 cm,but if the fish is stuck in the net just pull that parts out roughly a bit and its ok

Get yourself landing mat too. You never want the fish just laying in the dirt like that
