There’s no magnet in the bail. You have to open and close it fully by hand. That’s why your line isn’t getting pushed back to the line roller, you’re not closing the bail. But that may not matter since it looks like you cross-threaded the bail screw and that might be why the line is laying so terribly on the spool. Also, that line sucks and looks too heavy for that reel. You’d be best off to just send it to a Van Staal shop for service and have them fix it.
