Broke my second Dobyns fury. First one lasted about 4 months and the tip broke. This one lasted one fish. Both were broken on 3.5ish lb bass. Really frustrating, the fury was my first nice/expensive rod and has really let me down. Looks like it’s time to get a daiwa or shimano…

I’d recommend Phenix, Star Rods, or St Croix. I’ve had extremely good luck with all 3 of them
If you’re getting clean breaks on a graphite rod, it is because the blank has been previously damaged at that point.
The most common causes are:
* Damaged during transport
* Damaged at the store
* Accidentally smacked on something
My advice is to buy rods from reputable stores, and if you buy online, order from the manufacturer or a reputable seller (and not Amazon or Walmart). And be careful, transport your rod in a case/rod glove if you can.
How’d those rods break? That’s pretty far past the tip…. Could possibly be a manufacturing issue.
Not saying this is your situation,
but I see ALOT of clips where people are hoisting/flipping fish with a hand on
the rod near the middle. Some snap – most dont – surprising to me..
I came up saltwater fishing and we never
touched the rods when flipping fish – big fish. It was an instant death sentence
for the rod.
Rod break down there is likely due to damage in that area which can include putting way too much pressure on it or banging it on something. I’ve seen 2 rods snap down there — one rod was because I got carried away inthe current while snagged and snapped it after I put WAY too much pressure on it and the other was after accidentally snagging a 60″ spoonbill and fighting it for 20 minutes. Rod snapped on the next hookset with a crankbait lmfao (it a Medium bass rod…)
Once you start getting into nicer rods you generally can’t treat them the same way you do with the lower end rods.
Spend the extra and get a G. Loomis.
That sucks man I’ve put my Fury through hell for the last 6 years and had no issues. Contact customer support with photos.
