Welp… I did it. Bought my first fishing kayak. Well, it's my first kayak of any kind. Went with the Feelfree Moken 10 pdl. It checked all the boxes for me: smaller size, pedal drive, weight capacity, and price (sub $1500).

Got myself a lifevest, paddle in case of emergency or for shallow areas, and cam buckle straps to cinch this thing to the top of my SUV when heading to the lake.

Anyone with experience in the Moken 10 PDL? I'd appreciate any boat-specific tips or insights to maximize my fun and efficiency on the water. For those of you have have been doing this for a while, what are the essential add-ons I should get towards the beginning of this expensive-ass hobby?

I'm in Southern California and live near Cachuma Lake which is where I'll primarily be fishing. If anyone is in SoCal, I'd appreciate any info on other spots where I can launch this thing.

Get used to using your paddles before using your pedals, in extreme conditions paddle and pedal may be needed. Sit on tops are a lot harder to control in the wind.

Other than that you got a small boat capable of getting about anywhere so you got an advantage over shore fishermen and Jon boats, take it out a dozen times before you decide on buying stuff. Some of my happiest fishing is pretty minimalistic. Fish finder might be useful for a lake
