Went on a trip for a couple weeks. Truck was so loaded my rods couldn’t go in safely so I figured I’d just buy a couple cheap-o’s when I got here. Got 2 Ugly Stik combos and one reel seems wack. It was around $30 so I’m not expecting a whole heck of a lot, but…the reel won’t stop turning backwards until that red thing hits one spot and the spindle and rotating body wobble about 1/8 inch.

Your antireverse is off. Should be a lil flicky switch right under the reel to lock it. You unlock it when hooked and use like a manual drag when a big guy wants to dive 1100 feet in 4.6 seconds and you don’t snap your line.

That’s the way its works that way when you cast you dont have to fiddle with the quick release trigger. It’s all good

The “red thing” is a quick cast trigger. It stops there because it needs to be on top for your finger to grab it.

Use the anti-reverse lock under the spool and lower the drag(top of the spool) until you can pull line but not too easily so that if you hook a big fish the line doesn’t snap

It looks like the rotor nut could be loose (large brass nut at the base of the shaft). Try tightening it-not too much, though, as the rotor is plastic and over-tightening the nut could crack it. The anti-reverse thing is normal for this type of reel-there’s only one stop position.

  6. I got the quick trigger too…. The hook always comes loose on it when you set it on the rod. Yea. That loose reel is normal.

  7. Those reels are cheap pieces of crap. You can pick up a Shimano Sienna for like $30 and they’re great hardy little reels that’ll last years.

Cheap reels always have crappy tolerances really. I’d say you start to see the best bang for your buck around the $150~ price range. I’ve had $150 reels that have lasted me over a decade of fishing hard 3+ days a week, and they still have better tolerances than a cheap reel.

(I’m talking Canadian dollars so that’s probably around the $100-120 price range US?)

  9. It’s designed so that you can always back it up right to the trigger. My guess is that they were at one time trying to mimic the one-handed casting of baitcasters (?).

I didn’t care for that feature, especially once I realized I never used the trigger anyway, just felt clunky.

Yes, you just don’t have an anti reverse that work instantly as there is backlash.

probably heard this 100 times now but Quick fire reels do this. Anti-reverse triggers after a revolution so the line stops where you can easily grab it again a cast quicker. In regards to quality, lots of people get tired of the anti reverse before the reel goes bad lol, just depends on if you can get used to it
