Cool specimen from the Chicago River. It was hanging out in shallow water and couldn’t resist the slow sinking berry-looking fly.

Excellent catch! I flyfish Central Texas for carp and have caught two like this, cyclops-carp. I’ve also caught a carp who had such bad cataracts he was effectively blind, both eyes silvered over.

I was wading mid-river once, targeting exposed grass clumps and was just dropping my fly to present to a decent carp and as hard as I tried I could never get a bite from it. Each time he backed out of the grass to relocate my fly just wasn’t getting noticed. Then he turned 180 degrees and I could see the side I was presenting to had no eye! Once I presented the fly to his good eye he immediately turned on it and inhaled.

Good job carpin’ on the fly!
