$12 would be a pretty insignificant amount to get scammed on so if you want it just buy it. I personally think buy once cry once items are the way to go. If you are new to fly fishing and unsure if you like it just go with a fb marketplace setup.

Might as well, the reel is probably the least important part of fly fishing, unless your focus is saltwater and large predators. If you’re targeting trout, bass, and panfish, a cheap reel is more than fine. You’re better off stripping line in as opposed to reeling them in.

I bought multiple items on Temu/ Shein/Aliexpress and never once not receive the item so in my experience, no it’s not a scam in term of will the item be shipped

I’ve bought numerous items from AliExpress over the past year and I haven’t been scammed once. What you do have to watch for are sellers that have a “teaser” price on the first ad but when you click inside the prices will be quite a bit higher for all the other options or sizes. For example small waterproof utility trays in orange were cheap but other colors were a lot more. Also some shipping charges are unreal. Carefully check the price and shipping charge for the specific item you want. That being said I’ve gotten some really good deals on AliExpress. And always comparison shop multiple sites before pulling the trigger. I can’t believe how much some sites charge for an item vs. a competing site.

I like cheap things but even that’s a little cheap for me. I fly fish for Muskies and I have a piscifun sword fly reel and a reddington behemoth and out of the two I like the cheaper piscifun better.
